Argentina has announced the launch of its long-awaited Citizenship by Investment (CBI) program, giving international investors a potential pathway to Argentine citizenship through qualifying financial contributions or investment.

The Argentina Citizenship by Investment Program is expected to begin accepting applications in the fourth quarter of 2026. Economy Minister Luis Caputo announced the program during Argentina Week in Paris on October 2, 2026, outlining the investment options and the government’s plans for the new program.

Argentina Citizenship by Investment Program

The newly announced Argentina CBI program offers two investment routes for eligible applicants.

1. US$350,000 National Treasury Contribution

Applicants can make a non-refundable contribution to Argentina’s National Treasury, starting from US$350,000. This is the lower-cost route announced so far and is expected to attract a significant share of applicants.

Industry advisers involved in developing the program estimate that the contribution route could account for around 70% of applications, although this remains a forecast rather than an official government projection.

2. US$800,000 Government Bond

The second option involves a US$800,000 government security created specifically for the program.

The security is understood to have a seven-year term and pay no interest. However, the final terms are expected to be confirmed when the program’s operational rules are published.

Argentina Citizenship by Investment for Families

Eligible family members can also apply alongside the principal applicant, subject to the announced additional contributions:

  • Spouse: US$100,000
  • Children aged 18–25: US$100,000, provided they are unmarried and have no children
  • Children under 18: US$25,000

For example, a family of four consisting of a principal applicant, spouse, and two minor children would require US$500,000 in total contributions under the Treasury route.

Rigorous Due Diligence and Application Review

The Argentina Citizenship by Investment Program will include extensive due diligence.

According to the Argentine government, applications will be assessed against standards covering financial transparency, risk management, and due diligence aligned with recommendations from the OECD and FATF.

The review will cover areas including identity, the lawful origin and traceability of funds, financial and asset information, jurisdictional risk, criminal and reputational records, and immigration history.

The Agency for Citizenship by Investment Programs (APCI) will coordinate the assessment with relevant Argentine authorities. Its recommendations will then be sent to the National Directorate of Migration, which will make the final decision on each application.

Investment funds must also move through the formal financial system and comply with applicable anti-money laundering, counter-terrorist financing, and financial transparency requirements.

Why Is Argentina CBI Attracting Attention?

The announcement makes Argentina one of the newest entrants to the global investment migration market.

The country offers investors access to a major Latin American economy, while Argentine citizenship can provide international mobility and regional opportunities. Advisers involved in the program have also highlighted Argentina’s G20 status and the residence, work and business opportunities available to Argentine citizens across much of South America under regional arrangements.

At the same time, the program is still in its early stages. Some operational details have yet to be finalized, including aspects of the application process, agent certification, and other practical eligibility requirements. Further guidance is expected as Argentina moves toward the planned Q4 2026 launch.
