Who Needs to Renew?
Adults and children with expiring passports
Any citizen whose passport has expired, or is approaching its expiry date, should apply for a renewal in good time. Starting the renewal process at least six months before expiry is strongly recommended to allow time for gathering documents, submission, and any unexpected delays.
Citizens holding older, non-biometric passports
Since 2023, all new passports issued by Grenada are biometric ePassports. Citizens who still hold an older machine-readable passport are advised to renew and obtain the current biometric version.
Lost, stolen, or damaged passports
A replacement application is required if a passport is lost, stolen, or damaged. The loss or theft must be reported to the nearest police station and to the nearest Grenadian embassy or consulate. An affidavit declaring the circumstances of the loss must be completed, notarized, and submitted with the replacement application.
Citizens with changes in personal details
A new passport is also needed if personal details have changed. Citizens who are married must provide their original marriage certificate. Citizens who are divorced must provide their original divorce decree. Name changes require supporting documentation alongside the application.

Processing Time 2026
Standard Processing
2 to 3 weeks after a completed and correct application is received at the Embassy of Grenada in Washington, DC. Applications are forwarded to Grenada every Friday by the Embassy, so submission timing relative to that weekly dispatch can affect overall turnaround.
Expedited Processing
Available upon request. Applicants who need their passport by a specific date should include a letter with their application explaining the reason for the urgency and the date by which the passport is needed. The expedited processing fee is US$50, payable as a separate money order or certified cheque. Expedited applications are forwarded to Grenada on the same day they are received.
Processing Through an Overseas Mission
All passports are issued in Grenada.Applications submitted through an overseas embassy or high commission are processed locally, forwarded to Grenada for printing, and then returned to the mission for collection or dispatch. Total turnaround, including postage and handling, will be longer than the core processing period alone.
Lost or Stolen Passport Replacement
Replacement applications for lost or stolen passports involve additional steps, including a police report and a notarized affidavit. These cases can take significantly longer than standard renewal, sometimes several months. Confirm the expected timeline directly with the embassy or consulate handling your case.

Step-by-Step GrenadaPassport Renewal Process

Check Your Passport's Expiry Date
Review your current passport and note the expiry date. Begin the renewal process at least six months before that date to allow enough time for document preparation, submission, processing, and any unforeseen delays.

Obtain and Complete the Application Form
Download the passport application form from the Embassy of Grenada website or request one from your nearest Grenadian diplomatic mission. Complete all required sections in blue or black ink, in block capital letters. Do not leave any required section blank.

Arrange Your Recommender
Your application requires a recommender who should ideally be a Grenadian citizen who knows you personally. If you are based overseas, a local notary public or attorney at law may act as recommender instead. The recommender cannot be a relative by blood or marriage, and must endorse the reverse side of one of your photographs certifying your identity.

Gather Required Documents
Collect your current passport, original birth certificate, two recent photographs, and any additional documents relevant to your situation, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or certificate of naturalization. All documents must be original.

Pay the Fee and Submit Your Application
Pay the applicable fee online or as directed by the mission handling your application. Then submit your completed application and supporting documents to your nearest Grenadian embassy or high commission, either in person or by tracked express mail. If submitting by mail to the Embassy of Grenada in Washington, DC, prepare separate money orders for the passport fee and postage. Applications are forwarded to Grenada every Friday. Incomplete or incorrect applications will be returned.

Track and Receive Your Passport
Once your application is received and processed, your new passport will be returned to the mission and dispatched to you. Check all details on the new passport as soon as you receive it and report any errors to the embassy promptly.

Who can act as a recommender on a Grenada passport application?
The recommender listed in Section 11 of the application form must be a notary public or attorney at law. They cannot be a relative of the applicant, whether by blood or by marriage. The recommender must also endorse the reverse side of one of the applicant’s photographs, confirming it is a true likeness.
What happens to my old passport when I renew it?
Your current passport, whether expired or not, must be surrendered with your renewal application. The old passport is cancelled when the new one is issued. If you have valid visas in your old passport, check with the relevant embassies or immigration authorities to see whether those visas remain usable in a cancelled passport alongside your new one.
