Who Needs to Renew?

Citizens with expiring or expired passports 
Any citizen whose passport is approaching its expiry date or has already expired should apply for a renewal. Starting the process well ahead of the expiry date is strongly recommended. 
Citizens holding older passports 
Turkish biometric passports have been issued since June 2010. Citizens who hold an older non-biometric passport should apply for a renewal to obtain the current biometric version. 
Citizens with changes in personal details 
A new passport application is also needed if personal details have changed, such as a name change following marriage or a court order. Supporting documents such as a marriage certificate or court decree must be included with the application. 
Citizens whose passport is lost, stolen, or damaged 
A replacement application is required if a passport is lost, stolen, or damaged. The loss or theft should be reported to the nearest police station and to the Turkish consulate or civil registry office before a replacement is requested.

Processing Time 2026

Applications Within Turkiye 
Once a passport application is processed and the new booklet is printed, it is delivered to the applicant's address via PTT courier. Delivery takes 1 day to 56 major provincial centers, 2 days to other provincial centers, and up to 4 business days to district centers. The full processing time before printing depends on the civil registry office workload and should be confirmed at the time of booking
Applications Through an Overseas Consulate 
When applying through a Turkish Embassy or Consulate General abroad, biometric data is captured at the consulate, and the passport is printed in Turkiye. The finished passport is then shipped back to the consulate for collection or secure dispatch. Total turnaround including printing and return shipping can take several weeks. Confirm the expected timeline directly with the consulate handling your application. 
Urgent Processing 
Some civil registry offices and consulates may accommodate urgent cases. If you have a specific travel deadline, mention it at the time of booking and ask whether any priority processing is available.

Step-by-Step Turkiye Passport Renewal Process

Check Your Passport's Expiry Date

Review your current passport and note its expiry date. Begin the renewal process at least six months before that date to allow time for the appointment, processing, and delivery, and to ensure your passport remains valid for any planned travel.

Choose Your Application Channel

If you are in Turkiye, apply at your nearest civil registry office (Nufus Mudurlugu). If you are abroad, apply through the nearest Turkish Embassy, Consulate General, or Consulate. Applications through overseas missions are booked via konsolosluk.gov.tr.

Book Your Appointment

Within Turkiye, book your appointment at randevu.nvi.gov.tr, via the NVI Mobile app, or by calling ALO 199. Overseas applicants should book through the consular appointment system at konsolosluk.gov.tr. Do not visit without a confirmed appointment.

Pay the Application Fees

For applications within Turkiye, fees must be paid before your appointment via partner banks, PTT branches, tax offices, or online at dijital.gib.gov.tr. Keep your payment receipts. For consulate applications, fees are paid directly at the consulate on the day of your appointment.

Attend Your Appointment

Bring your Turkish ID card, current or expired passport, payment receipts, and two biometric photographs to your appointment. Your fingerprints and digital signature will be captured on-site. For consulate applicants, biometric data is also captured at the mission.

Receive Your New Passport

Within Turkiye, your new passport is delivered to your registered address via PTT courier after printing. Delivery takes 1 to 4 business days depending on your location. For consulate applicants, the passport is printed in Turkiye and returned to the consulate for collection or secure mail delivery. Check all details on the new passport as soon as you receive it and report any errors immediately.

Expert Tips

Start your renewal at least six months before your passport expires, particularly if you rely on it for travel, banking compliance, or visa applications. 
If you have valid visas in your old passport (for example, a Schengen or US visa), ask the officer at the time of your appointment to return the canceled old passport to you with the visa pages intact. This allows you to continue using those visas alongside your new passport. 
Biometric photographs must be exactly 5x5 cm, on a white background, and taken within the last six months. Photos that do not meet these specifications are a common cause of delay. 
Fees must be paid before your appointment, not on the day. Keep your payment receipts and bring them to the civil registry office or consulate. 
If applying from abroad, confirm the appointment process, accepted payment methods, and any additional document requirements directly with the consulate you plan to use before sending anything. 
When you receive your new passport, check that all personal details are correct before leaving the office. Report any errors immediately.
