Who Needs to Renew?

Adults and children with expiring passports
Any citizen whose passport has expired, or is approaching its expiry date, should apply for a renewal in good time. Starting the process at least six months before expiry is strongly recommended. 
CBI passport holders who have not yet completed Biometric Enrolment 
All CBI passport holders are required to complete biometric enrolment by July 31, 2027. If your passport is due to expire in 2026 or 2027, combining your passport renewal with biometric enrolment is the most practical approach.
Holders of the older non-biometric passport
Since November 2024, all new passports issued by St Kitts and Nevis are biometric ePassports with an embedded chip. Citizens who hold an older passport are strongly encouraged to upgrade; for CBI holders, this is now mandatory before the 2027 deadline.
Citizens with changes in personal details 
A new passport is also needed following a name change due to marriage, divorce, or deed poll. Name-change renewals require additional supporting documents and may take up to 2 months to process.
Lost, stolen, or damaged passports
A replacement application is required if a passport is lost, stolen, or damaged. The loss or theft must be reported to the local police and to the nearest St Kitts and Nevis High Commission, Embassy, or an Authorised Agent before a replacement can be processed.

Processing Time 2026

Standard Processing  
Up to 2 months after a complete application is accepted. This is the standard timeline for both domestic and overseas renewal applications. 
Processing Through an Overseas Mission  
Applications submitted through a St Kitts and Nevis High Commission, Embassy, or Consulate are processed locally and forwarded to the Passport Office. Once the passport is ready, it is returned to the mission for collection or dispatch. Total turnaround, including postage and handling, will be longer than the core processing period alone. Confirm the expected timeline directly with the mission you plan to use. 
Lost or Stolen Passport Replacement 
Replacement applications for lost or stolen passports require a police report, a notarized affidavit, and a Passport Recovery Form in addition to the standard renewal of documents. Processing typically takes up to 2 months after a complete replacement application is accepted. Allow additional time for document preparation before submission. 
Important Notice for CBI Passport Holders:
From April 2026, all St Kitts and Nevis CBI passport holders must complete biometric enrolment by July 31, 2027, or their passport will be deactivated for international travel. Enrolment must be arranged through an Authorised Agent via the official government platform.

Step-by-Step St Kitts and Nevis Passport Renewal Process

Check Your Passport and Biometric Status

Review your current passport's expiry date and confirm whether you have already completed biometric enrolment. If your passport is expiring before July 31, 2027, and you have not yet enrolled, plan to combine both processes at the same time to avoid duplication of effort.

Gather Required Documents

Collect your current or expired passport, original birth certificate, Certificate of Citizenship or Registration, and two recent photographs meeting the specified standards. If any documents are not in English, arrange certified translations before submission.

Book Your Biometric Enrolment Appointment

If you are a CBI passport holder who has not yet enrolled, you must book a biometric appointment through an Authorised Agent via the official Government of St Kitts and Nevis Biometric Enrolment Platform. 



At the appointment, adults aged 16 and over will provide fingerprints and complete a facial scan. Children under 16 provide a photograph. Before your appointment, you are required to watch a mandatory civic education video about the Federation and complete a short questionnaire.

Submit Your Application

Submit your completed application and supporting documents to the Passport Office in Basseterre, your nearest St Kitts and Nevis High Commission or Embassy, or through an Authorised Agent if applying remotely. Government fees are paid through the official biometric enrolment platform or as directed by the mission handling your application.

Track Your Application

Stay in contact with the office or mission handling your case. If applying through an overseas mission, bear in mind that the passport must be issued in Basseterre and returned to the mission before it can be collected or dispatched to you.

Collect Your New Passport

Once your new passport is ready, collect it from the Passport Office or the mission through which you applied. Passports can also be delivered by secure courier to your designated address. Check all details on the new document as soon as you receive it and report any errors promptly.

Expert Tips

Begin the renewal process at least six months before your passport expires. If your passport is expiring in 2026 or 2027, combine the renewal with your biometric enrolment appointment to avoid two separate processes.
Your application form must be completed in capital letters in blue ink, or typed in black ink. Forms filled in lowercase, pencil, or the wrong colour ink will be returned.
Make sure your photographs are exactly 35mm x 45mm, taken within the last six months, and endorsed on the reverse by your recommender. Incorrect photographs are one of the most common reasons for delay.
Keep your original Certificate of Naturalization in a secure place separate from your passport. You will need it for every future renewal, and replacing a lost certificate costs $2,200.
