Panama Qualified Investor Program

A Strategic Gateway Connecting the Americas
The Panama Canal alone handles around 5% of the world's maritime trade every year. That kind of traffic doesn't pass through a country without leaving a mark. In Panama's case, it shows up in the legal system, the banking rules, and even the fact that the US dollar is legal tender alongside the local currency.
None of this happened by accident. Decades of political stability helped. A base in Panama means same-day reach into North America, South America, Europe, and even the Caribbean. That's not something most countries in the region can claim.

نظرة عامة على البرنامج
Panama Qualified Investor Program
Introduced to strengthen Panama's position as an international business and investment destination, the program allows eligible investors to obtain permanent resident status through a qualifying investment in real estate, securities, or the country's banking sector.
One of the program's key advantages is that successful applicants receive permanent residency upon approval. Many residency programs require investors to spend time under temporary or conditional status before becoming permanent residents. Panama takes a different approach. Once approved, successful applicants receive permanent residency directly, making the program an attractive option for those looking for long-term stability and international connectivity.

Panama Residency– FAQs
What is the minimum investment required for Panama residency?
The Panama Qualified Investor Program has three investment routes. The lowest entry point is USD 300,000 through real estate. Investors can also qualify with a USD 500,000 securities investment or a USD 750,000 fixed-term deposit held with a qualifying Panamanian bank.
How do I apply for Panama residency through investment?
The first step is choosing the investment option that best suits your goals. From there, the required documents are prepared, and the investment is completed. Once the authorities have reviewed the application and supporting documents, successful applicants are granted permanent residency.
How long does the Panama residency application process take?
Panama runs one of the fastest residency programs available. Timelines vary by case, but most applications are completed within 30 to 90 days when all documents are submitted correctly.
Can I include my family in my Panama residency application?
Yes. Family members can be added to the same application, typically a spouse, children under 18, dependent children aged 18 to 25 who are full-time students, and financially dependent parents. Each category has its own documentation requirements.
Is there a minimum stay requirement to maintain Panama residency?
No. There is no requirement to live in Panama continuously. Permanent residents only need to visit once every two years to keep their status active, which is one of the more flexible terms among residency programs.
Do I need to speak Spanish to obtain Panama residency?
No. The Qualified Investor Program has no Spanish language requirement. Spanish proficiency and other naturalization criteria only come into play if you later apply for Panamanian citizenship.
Does Panama residency lead to citizenship?
Not automatically. The program grants permanent residency, not citizenship. Residents who keep their status in good standing and meet the legal requirements can apply for Panamanian citizenship after five years. Approval isn’t guaranteed at that point either: applicants typically need to show physical presence in the country, basic Spanish, knowledge of Panama’s history and civics, and genuine ties to the country.
Does Panama allow dual citizenship?
Not officially, though it’s permitted in practice for most applicants. Panamanian law technically requires renouncing your prior citizenship during naturalization, but this isn’t enforced unless your home country also processes that renunciation. Since the outcome depends on your country of origin’s own laws, it’s best to get advice on both Panama’s rules and your home country’s rules before applying.
