Latest EU Entry/Exit System (EES) for Travelling to Europe
The newly introduced EU Entry/Exit System is set to launch by November 10th, 2024.
The automated EES IT system will require all non-EU nationals to register their biometric information for short-term travel upon each entry and exit at the borders of any EU member state.
The EES system will eliminate long waiting hours and manual border check procedures for all non-EU nationals making travel to European countries more streamlined and accessible.
Which European Countries are included under the EES?
Austria | Denmark | Greece | Liechtenstein | Norway | Slovenia |
Belgium | Estonia | Hungary | Lithuania | Poland | Spain |
Bulgaria | Finland | Iceland | Luxembourg | Portugal | Sweden |
Croatia | France | Italy | Malta | Romania | Switzerland |
Czech Republic | Germany | Latvia | Netherlands | Slovakia |
How is “Short Stay” calculated?
Visitors can check the number of days they are eligible to stay on the European countries’ territory using the EES online tool, which will soon be available online. A short stay will refer to 90 days within a 180-day period.
Arriving at a border crossing point for the first time since EES launch
Passport control officers will scan your biometric data, including fingerprints and a photograph. This information will be stored in a digital file. Your passport (biometric or non-biometric) will not be stamped.
Arriving at a border crossing point after you have registered through EES
Passport control officers will verify your biometric data which is already registered and recorded.
Please be advised that passport control officers may implement safety measures, including the re-collection of biometric data, if necessary.
Who does the EES system apply to?
The EES system only applies to non-EU nationals traveling to Europe. To check if you need to register under the EES, please read more.
